Nursing Center for Family Health - Services

Services are available for all University students, faculty, staff, retired employees, and their families, and the local community. Services include:

Glucose Screening
This test for diabetes takes less than five minutes and includes a finger-stick procedure. Test results are more accurate following an 8-12 hour fasting period, or 2 hours after a meal.
Cholesterol Tests
Initial cholesterol screening and regular monitoring for people modifying their diets to lower cholesterol levels. Test does not require fasting.
Lipid Panel Test
If your total cholesterol level exceeds recommended limits, you may need your HDL (high density) and LDL (low density) levels checked. This test also includes a triglyceride screening. The test requires an 8-12 hour fast. Those wishing to include a lipid panel as part of a wellness screening should notify the NCFH upon arrival at the center.
Health Assessment (Pediatric & Adult)
Includes health history, physical exam, and vital signs including blood pressure, body mass index, developmental testing (i.e., school, sports, and employee physicals).
One Time Visit/Consultation
The Advanced Practice Nursing faculty and staff can assess minor acute medical problems such as earache, sore throat, skin rash, and advise you on proper treatment. Staff can also provide guidance and clarification regarding chronic health conditions.
Women's Health Promotion
Includes health history, physical exam, Pap smear, counseling/coaching, and goal setting.
Health Improvement Program with Consultation
  • Includes adult health history, physical exam, and goal setting.
  • Lab tests include lipid panel and glucose screening.
  • An anemia check and urinalysis will be done if needed.
  • On a follow-up visit, a nurse will help you set health goals and identify resources that meet your healthcare needs and determine your Framingham heart disease risk score.
Blood Pressure
Regular monitoring to assess control or prevent complications.
Chronic Disease Management
Includes monitoring and counseling and health education to promote effective and efficient management of your chronic condition including diabetes, congestive heart failure, asthma, and arthritis.
