Center for Nursing History, Ethics, Human Rights and Innovations - Mission and Goals

The Center for Nursing History, Ethics, Human Rights and Innovations, established at Purdue University in 2003, promotes leadership and advocacy in historical, ethical, and human rights issues influencing healthcare.

The goals of the Center include:

  • Promoting scholarship and teaching in history, ethics, and human rights, with an emphasis on emergent issues associated with technological, socio-political, cultural, economic, and scientific developments influencing healthcare.
  • Supporting the preservation and study of nursing history, ethics, and human rights in the United States, with a special emphasis on rural history and underserved populations.
  • Disseminating historical research findings that propose ethical decisions and policy solutions to healthcare dilemmas.
  • Collaborating with persons inside and outside of Purdue University who are committed to the analysis and resolution of historical, ethical, and human rights dilemmas in a rapidly changing society.
