Applications for admission to the School of Nursing should be submitted to the Office of Admissions at the beginning of your senior year. Beginning and transfer students who are not registered nurses should indicate a major of freshman nursing.
Your acceptance as a new student at the University is influenced by many factors. Specifically, the Admissions Committee is guided by the following:
- Your graduation from a high school accredited by a state department of public instruction.
- The extent to which you meet or exceed minimum subject matter requirements. Most applicants far
exceed the minimum requirements indicated in the following table. For admission to nursing, your record must include:
| Subjects | Semesters Required |
| English | 8 |
| Social Sciences | 6 |
| Academic math* | 6 |
| Science (2 must be biology; 2 must be chemistry) | 6 |
| Foreign Language | 4 |
| Additional English, language, math, Sciences, and social studies | 6 |
| Other high school subjects | 4 |
*Academic math includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, etc.
- Quality requirements.
- Quality is determined by considering a combination of overall
academic achievement, rank in class, test scores, probability of success, grade
average in college preparatory subjects, grade in courses related to the degree
objective, trends in achievement, completion of high school subject matter
requirements, and the strength of the college preparatory program.
- Admission is limited and selective for both in- and out-of-state
applicants. Only the most qualified
applicants will be selected for admission from those applications that reflect
the stated minimum requirements.
- Required tests.
- All applicants who have not completed a full year of college work are required to take the SAT-I or the ACT.
- Students are encouraged to take either the SAT-I or the ACT in the spring of the junior year.
- Information provided by the high school counselor.
